Social responsability

Methodology

Our methodology does not rely on scores or screeners, but rather on a collaboratively approach about ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) factors in order to analyze the potential impacts our invested companies are subject to, as well as help improve operations, governance, and transparency standards. We believe in consistent results in the long run and are continuously evolving our analysis based on the environmental and social components of the companies in our investment universe.

We believe that a combination of qualitative and quantitative metrics is the best approach to understand the challenges and opportunities associated with our investments. The analysis of ESG factors is no different. We aim to measure the financial impacts of ESG factors on our invested companies, incorporating this data into our valuation models. This process is aligned with the international best practices for responsible investing.

On March 2019, Brasil Capital adhered to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), an initiative created in 2006 by a group of 20 global investors in 12 countries in partnership with the United Nations.

This initiative seeks to understand the implications of environmental, social, and governance factors for the investments and help its international network of signatories incorporate these factors in their investment and ownership decisions. The PRI advocates for the long-term interests of its signatories, the financial markets, and economies, and ultimately the environment and society as a whole.

Environmental, Social and Governance
Since 2000, Brasil Capital’s senior partners have actively participated in the development of corporate governance best practices in the Brazilian capital market. Therefore, since our foundation in 2008, Brasil Capital has been a strong advocate of corporate governance in Brazil, consistently contributing to its invested companies.

As we believe that our investment portfolio’s risk/reward ratios can be improved, our philosophy also considers the challenge of achieving more consistent returns while reducing the risks posed by environmental, social, and governance factors. We understand that companies that focus on corporate governance best practices, have a social view, and encourage diversity, generate more consistent returns over the years.

Environmental Commitment

Brasil Capital neutralizes the carbon emissions from its operations through the preservation of biodiversity in an area of native forest. To this end, it promotes the social and economic development of the local communities.

Philanthropy and Social Initiatives

Brasil Capital actively participates in the Movimento Bem Maior (www.movimentobemmaior.org.br) as sponsor and member of its board of directors.

The Movimento Bem Maior is a non-partisan, non-profit social organization that identifies, connects, and enables important social initiatives with one objective: to strengthen the philanthropic ecosystem in Brazil.

Brasil Capital and its partners individually allocate resources to social projects and college sponsorships to students with outstanding academic records and financial needs. We have contribute to improve university libraries in Brazil and actively participate in investment analysis training for students. We believe that investing in education is part of our social responsibility and an efficient way to contribute to the development of our country.
